If you want to run your tires a little harder you may want to go with the 6 ply tire. Id go for 10-ply.

6 ply vs 8 ply tires. Currently 6 ply tires on there rated at 1820 lbs per tire for a total weight carrying capacity of 7284. They make an 8 ply tire in the same size thats rated at 2150 lbs per tire total weight carrying capacity of 8600 lbs. Gbc grim reapers and kenda htr both work well blackwaters work well pricing will vary any 8 ply with a tread pattern that will work for your type of riding should be good.
Different tires work best with different tire pressure. May have to experiment according to riding style and terrain. Unless you are racing you probably wont see much if any power loss between 6 ply and 8 ply.
8 ply is the way to go it might be a little heavier but quite a bit more durable. We highly recommend the Kanati Mongrel we have a hard time keeping them in stock. The load range scale includes letters A through L however most truckSUV tires with towing and load capabilities including LT metric and flotation tires fall somewhere between C and F.
Heres how the load range rating left corresponds to the old ply rating system right. LTs need 53 PSI to carry that same load. To get that pressure requires 8 ply load range D or higher rated tires.
If you get LTs run them at 55 PSI front and run the rears at maximum for towing then let the rears back down to 55 for normal driving. I recommend this based on the Suburban 2500 which uses 10 ply load range E LT 24575R16 tires. It is always recommended to use tires that are the same size have the same load range and construction on a trailer.
If tires that are not matched you could have problems like overheating and overloading which can lead to tire failure. You always want to make sure you inflate the tires when cold to the maximum psi for the best performance. The B is a 4-ply rated tire the C is a 6-ply rated tire and the D is a 8-ply rated tire.
The Ply Rating used to refer to the number of layers of cotton. You may remember seeing your tires stamped with the words 2 Ply4 Ply Rating We are looking at Big O tires4 ply vs. To be clear the number of ply is just part of that equation.
The size of your trailer tire is important as well. A large tire with lesser ply can carrier a heavier load and have a higher load index than a smaller tire with more ply. The tires ply rating has a direct relation to its load carrying capacity usually shown with a 2 or 3 digit number.
I just gought Goodyear Silent Armor Prograde 10-ply ms they run quiet. Id go for 10-ply. Tire load rating 3042lbs.
Compare 8- and 10-ply load ratings. Im tossed between tire choices. I am going with Nitto Terra Grapplers either in 2857017 or the 2957017.
The 295s are an 8 ply and the 285s are a 10 ply. Are the 10 ply tires too stiff a tire for a 1500 pickup. Or am I better to go with the 295 because of the softer ride.
16650-8 Vredestein 6 Ply V61 Heavy Duty 5-Rib. This has the Metric number 17060-8 same size as 16650-8. This tire is Tube-type tube required.
136-28 Alliance 304 Tractor Tire 8 Ply TT The Alliance 304 tractor tire is an R-1 rear tractor tire featuring knife like lugs for better ground penetration. I changed my stock tires out they sucked. I am running 6 ply Terracross radials.
Its like driving a completely different machine handles like a dream in the corners compared to the stock tires. I have ran 8 ply tires on my quad and the extra weight is tough on cv joints. So i went with a 6 ply tire for the weight savings.
6 ply will give you a little better ride where as the 8 ply has stiffer side wall and wont be as forgiving. Im doing ok with the 4 ply 20s but will upgrade to 6 ply when the time comes. If you do rock crawling or ride somewhere that has more chance of punctures.
A tow package equipped truck comes rated at 9 or 10k lbs of towing capacity with a P tire so you certainly dont need a LTE tire for towing. You might get better performance though. At some point the issue is simply that the bigger diameter tires only come with E-rating.
Basically once you get to roughly 33 your only choice will be E-rated. Posted July 30 2017. On 7292017 at 719 AM RLCarter said.
Tires are actually part of the suspension an 8 ply rating will give a harsher ride over a 6 ply. As far as wear goes that depends on the compound of the rubber softer compounds give better traction but wear faster than a harder compound. One of the major improvements was making plies out of nylon.
Nylon is so much stronger that if youre old enough you may remember seeing your tires stamped with the words 2 Ply4 Ply Rating That meant there were only two nylon plies but they were so strong the tire was equivalent to one made of four cotton plies. I dont think youll really notice too much difference between 8 and 10 ply tires as they are both pretty strong tires. Youll notice a difference between 8 ply and P-metric or 10 ply and P-metric.
Think of it this way P pasenger type tire. I am going back to 6 ply on my next set. I lost 1-15 mpg but they are pretty tough.
I have not had a puncture in my 10 plys. I noticed on the spec sheets that 10 ply can weigh 5-10 pound more on each tire and that in unsprung weight. Misterquad Nov 25 2009.
Nov 25 2009 at. I race XC and I can tell you i dont run anything but 6 ply for woods racing. When you have a 2 hour race of complete chaos you need a tire that will not puncture easily.
That being said even my 6 ply tires do puncture i run tireballs inside them to maintain air pressure at all times. 6 ply are heavy and durable 2 ply are light and weak. And the working pressure on a 600 x 6 4 ply is 29 psi a 6 ply is 42 psi and a 8 ply is 55 psi.
Yes that is point of spring gear but put solid tires on a cessna and see how long the gear lasts. The deformation rates of the tires ARE taken into consideration when designing gear. Stop applying static calculations to a dynamic math problem.
Or do I just ditch that type of tire and go for something like the Duratracs where I can get something like a 6 ply. Memario1214 Jul 1 2011 1. Jul 1 2011 at 945 AM 2 2.
The problem is that they only come in a Passenger rated tire and the next lowest is D Rated tire or 8 ply. Im thinking that 8 ply would be super stiff and. Depends on your use If your going to go off road a lot then I would go 10 Ply.
8 ply may be OK but IMO 10 ply would be my choice And cost would not be much of a differencebetter safe then sorry Me I DO NOT off Road as my RAM is a street queen lol so LT46 ply ok for me. Just my 2 cents. The 6 ply tires actually weigh a little less than the 4 ply while the load rating of the 4 plys is almost 40 percent lower.
Also the rated max inflation PSI is 50 PSI for the 6 ply as opposed to 31 PSI for the 4 ply tire. If you want to run your tires a little harder you may want to go with the 6 ply tire.
