If the check valve is cracked it can cause the water pump to keep running. There are many things that can go wrong with the float switch that could cause the sump pump to run without stop.

Water pump won t stop running. 17 rows If your well pump wont stop running and it is delivering water then I suspect that the pump is unable to reach the cut-off pressure. That can happen for a variety of reasons like loss of water in the well a well piping leak water running somewhere that you didnt realize a pressure switch set too high or a damaged pressure sensor component of the pressure control switch. The most likely cause of a pump not shutting off is the pressure switch.

My water pump wont stop running. I have done some troubleshooting and this is what I have found. The pump has two lines that draw water from my well into my basement and the pump is drawing water - all the faucets work.
The psi on the gauge is around 42-44. The first thing to do is check all the valves including the check valve. If the check valve is cracked it can cause the water pump to keep running.
In a case like this there are things you can do to repair a problematic check valve. Turn the water off and watch the check valve for leaks. If there is no water pressure and the pump has shut off - or is not running - in response to the fall of pressure below the pump switch cut-in pressure then the switch may have tripped OFF to protect the water pump from damage that can be caused if the pump runs dry - without water.
When the pump is put back into the water the air arround the impeller prevents the water from surronding the impeller. The impller does not pump air as effectively as water so it runs but will not suck properly. To remove an airlock turn the power off so the pump stops running.
Wouldnt shut off so I unplugged it afraid it was bc of water. A few days later plugged it in after all was dry and still phantom running wouldnt stop. Tried resetting to no avail then I found this site.
Plugged it in let it run for not even 3 minutes and it shut itself off. Just finished 2 loads and all seems well. Thanks everyone for sharing.
I have a 2006 34ft Itasca Gas MH. The water pump will not stay running when the water is on. If I wiggle the wires that plug into the pump it will come on when its calling for water.
Once I think I have it fixed or try it later the same thing happens. My question is do you think I have a bad co. Turn the shutoff valves on the cold and hot water supply lines clockwise to run off the water running to the machine.
Remove the plastic end caps on. They have switched the pump off and hot and cold water still flows through it under gravity so it definately hasnt run dry. My customer informs me that the pump doesnt stop running even when the taps are shut.
Two possibilities - there is a catastrophic leak somewhere that has 25bar pressure gushing out of it or the pumps internal switch. When the float is tilted upward the switch inside the float turns on thus draining the tank. When the tank empties the float tilts downward.
When this happens the switch inside turns off and the tank begins to fill with water again. There are many things that can go wrong with the float switch that could cause the sump pump to run without stop. If replacing the water valve doesnt fix the problem or only runs when the LG washer is plugged in you may have to replace the pressure switch or water level control.
This part is responsible for letting the machine know that it already has enough water. If it fails your washer will keep filling with water or the drain pump wont stop running. The last step that you can do is to replace.
Just like the heater element problem above if the thermostat doesnt tell the timer that the dishwasher is ready for the next cycle the washer will continue heating the water and wont stop running. A lot of steam and hot water after an extended period of time may also indicate a. In these cases a signal is not reaching the water pump to shut off and so stop the flow of water up past the lowest cup-size setting probe.
The pump keeps going. So there is a breakdown somewhere along the line. This breakdown could be with the lowest probe and signal not being sent when water detection is sensed.
